Affirm Your Love Cards

created by Embody Love Movement and Leslie Prince

“I have come to this planet to learn to love myself more, and to share that love with all those around me.” - Louise Hay

I learned about affirmations through Louise Hay, an author who believes that your point of power is always in the present moment. Louise teaches that thoughts shape reality and affirmations can be a powerful tool to create new experiences.
Louise’s message resonated with me and I began to blend the power of affirmations with one of my favorite hobbies: watercoloring. Although I have no formal training in painting with watercolors, it has always been a healing art form for me. Watercolors taught me to let go of my perfectionistic tendencies; precision and watercolors don’t mix for me (pun intended). So in 2016, after reading about the power of affirmations, I decided to add my own messages of positivity directly onto my watercolor drawings. I hand lettered an affirmation on each watercolor that reflected the direction I wanted to take my thoughts and energy. I put the cards in my bathroom and on my altar as gentle reminders to myself.
At first, it felt really vulnerable to share these glimpses into the direction I was taking my life. But it also felt exciting to see these intentions and revisit them daily.

Gift-giving is one of my love languages so I started attaching affirmations to gifts like eye pillows, lavender bath salts, and small crystals with the desire to empower and uplift those around me. My intent was to share a tool that has been healing and nurturing to me, but I was afraid the impact wouldn’t be received that way.

“Am I telling someone how to live their life?” still goes through my head some days and makes me cringe.
But over time, I also saw ripples of my work in my community. Some kept the affirmations in their homes as a daily reminder. Others told me that the affirmation they received was divine timing. Soon I began to see my affirmation cards everywhere. Some of my yoga students practice with the affirmations at the top of their space. And over time the practice grew organically. One of my closest friends told me that they had begun to give away affirmations to their loved ones. While another launched her wellness business and attached beautiful affirmations that align with her brand centered on nourishing black women. Check her out at https://www.instagram.com/ iamgoldenmelanin/.

In the ancient yoga texts, the Yoga Sutras, the author suggests that you can regain balance from a disturbing thought by intentionally inviting in the opposite thoughts. In my experience, affirmation cards can be a tool to recalibrate my headspace towards

compassion. I hope that by sharing, you use this as a tool to foster a compassionate relationship to your body and that you make the choices that support your healing.

I’ve also created a blank card for the affirmation(s) that feel right for you today. You are the expert in your experience and I honor your unique path. If you share on social, please tag me so I can marvel at your greatness.
These affirmations are not intended to be used as a treatment for any condition. When discussing affirmations, it’s important to recognize and acknowledge the role of privilege and access, and lack thereof. One of our conference guests, Maris Degener, wrote a brilliant post about this that I highly recommend : https://www.yogamaris.net/ blog/2018/06/27/privilege.
